i got to know gavin russoms music thanks to the amazing the days of mars album he recorded together with delia gonzalez now ten years ago on dfa records. flash forward to last year, when we released michele mininnis trippy endless ceremony. gavin russom loved that one and sent over a demo shortly after - youre listening to it now. i am really proud to be able to release an ep from such an extraordinary artist, enjoy! 1st pressing on splattered 12! over the last 12 years, kel mckeown, or kelpe, has carved himself a unique perch in the uk s electronic underground. across several full-lengths, eps and remix projects, his misfit electronica has managed to cohere a staggeringly deep spectrum of influence along the way. a natural son and heir to generation warp and the fathers of krautrock, his pioneering experiments in the early 00s also positioned him as one of many stylistic precursors to the arrival of la s now-sprawling beat scene. much like scene-savants prefuse 73 and dimlite, kelpe has remained an enormously respected stalwart of the fringes, always dabbling variously in sampleheavy beat-craft, oddball ambient, and more recently dancefloor-ready club grub.

the first self titled album from emptyset is reissued. released in 2009 the material formed the initial departure within emptysets ongoing exploration of time, structure and analogue technology. the album highlights the projects development and the foundation of their studio based production process, forming the first part of a tryptic spanning across demiurge, released in 2010 with subtext and the 2013 raster-noton album recur. the eponymous debut creates the first point within this narrative, initiating a dialogue between full frequency audio, noise and the emergent properties of sound, and the starting point for their contained sonic approach.

over the past years bézier has seen releases under the dark entries record imprint with the most recent telomeres ep this year. the title track &#30342,,,, or pronounced * mina* translates from japanese to * everyone*. mina is a journey through space with the initial ascent marked by a moody window of time in which uncertainty dominates the mindset of the passengers. once they break through the atmosphere and are proceeding as planned they land on the final destination, an interplanetary discotheque. mina was recorded this year with mark pistel on the helms for mixing and features sf drummer kevin woodruff of tussle fame providing live drumming for the last portion of the track. along with the title track the b-side includes tracks previously released on compilations but appear here for maximum record playing enjoyment. * serengeti drive* which appeared on honey soundsystems earlier hnytrx compilation of queer dancefloor artists is the slow burner of the group. * mysteries of the deep* which appeared in the jacktone cassette compilation of bay area electronic stars is the soundtrack to an underwater expedition. both tracks were recorded, produced and mixed by robert in his home sf studio in 2009.

the a&r edits return with a double-header from hot digits head honcho fingerman. the brighton producer grew up listening to his parents enviable steely dan record collection and for his comeback outing on a&r has retouched the de la soul-sampled classic, peg. a tight circle of djs have road tested this rework over recent times and we ve been inundated with requests for its release. in 1970, new york session drummer bill curtis merged the fatback jazz beat of new orleans into a street funk band and signed his outfit to perception records. over the next decade, they incorporated jazz and disco into their signature funk style, before moving in an r&b direction in the 80s. during this period, american pop success proved elusive, but the group made regular appearances in the uk singles chart, hitting the top twenty three times with (are you ready) do the bus stop , (do the) spanish hustle and i found lovin it s the latter, an anthem on the uk black music scene in 1984, that has been served up here by fingerman, a staple at his casablanca jazz club residency in brighton and now available on wax for the first time.

for the second release on frits wentinks new bobby donny label, he hands over to san2, aka geert schilder. hailing from eindhoven in the south of the netherlands, schilder takes his production name from the building which houses his studio, on the second floor of the san building where the legendary radios and tape recorders were built by philips. with this in mind, it seems to follow suit that his music is mainly produced with analog techniques, incorporating equipment like the roland tr-606, sh-101, sbx-1 and akai mpc 2000xl

seahawks and their pal eddie c join forces on red motorbike records to create an ep of dreamy innerspace travel music, lush blissed-out interstellar synth pad dreams for the weary space explorer, washing over your mind and body like a cool solar wind, as you take in the luxuriant beauty of the local galaxies. gentle, flowing keyboard melodies that disarm and relax, well crafted electronic rhythms, uplifted melodies and plenty of really nice saturated vibraphone. this is music carl sagan would smoke weed to, music that swirls and flutters through the rays of light reflected by the sheen on this production.

daniel.t. has been subtly making waves over the past few years as one half of the la duo cosmic kids with releases on labels including throne of blood, let s play house and dfa. a record collector and selector at heart, 2015 has seen him flesh out his solo productions with world-leaning contributions to chit chat s brazilian tinged 12 and american standard s african summer stunner. young adults brings daniel into the fold for his debut tetrachromat mini-lp spanning a sprawling spectrum of sounds, but unified by a signature west-coast sheen. opener mission hill morning stretches its arms in the early am mist, tetrachromat jogs steadily toward the horizon and planetesimal accelerates the mph in the drop top down pch. on the flip, laced takes a smoke break down a dusty dirt road, akoussah sprinkles some sultry spice and the sun & the sky sits back while the sea sips up the last remaining daylight.

new to the stay underground it pays gang, the eighth release on the label comes from none other than octo octa! you know him from his prolific run on 100% silk, and more recently for his ep on gerd jansons running back label at the top of the year. the man from brooklyn serves up 4 slices of that u.s. experimental house sound we love so much. on the a side, we have two versions of octo octa’s melancholic title track, requiem for the body. both as good as the other, it’s gonna be split for a lot of listeners on which is better. while both versions share certain elements, the second plays down the long keys of the first versions in favour of some stabby chord patterns. either way, proper 4 a.m. business!on the flip, we get a bit more ethereal with times two (loose version). simple yet effective, this one has a lot of atmosphere with those delayed vocal cuts over that late 80s bassline. closing out the record is when home. this one is a bit of a stomper at first until it brings in the lighter synth elements halfway through. someone, somewhere will have an epiphany listening to this track. if its you reading this, send in the results on the back of a postcard. all in all, another killer release that feels straight at home in the stay underground it pays catalogue

swedish sound poet porn sword tobacco paints sparkling, intimate soundscapes over intuitive grooves and lets them sprawl out over two 12inch records full of life. fresh!

already featuring on two earlier prrukblk samplers and on the digital imprint, it was just a matter of time for his 12 inch solo-debut to come, von grall presents his *no contact ep* on the planet rhythm black imprint. the paris-based producer has been pushing forward his characteristic deep & atmospheric sound over the past two years and has proven to be one of the strong upcoming forces of the label. next to the great claudio prc remix on the a-side, the release features three original tracks ranging from the dancefloor-driven *quadratic* to the trippy *no contact* and even deeper into dark atmospheric sounds on *molecular collison* - making this ep another strong addition to the prrukblk catalog!

where to now? records are proud to present beatrice dillons follow up release to the widely well received * blues dances*. this three track 12 inch sees beatrice step things up a gear in terms of intricacy, experimenting wildly to add to her already astute palette of timbre and rhythm. face a leads the record with the unmistakable skronk of saxophone cutting and jamming over the skeletal pulse of beatrices signature dubbed out techno landscape. initially the inclusion of saxophone acts as an aural abstraction or diversion to extract a little freedom from the pumping cavern of dark dub techno atmosphere punctuated with the mechanical juddering saw-bass, but as the piece develops and we become deep into the groove the inclusion of wild sax snorts trips us up and become the focus itself as new levels of complex melodic and rhythmic detail become apparent within this otherwise structurally obedient space. taking its cues from rabih beaini, miles davis * big fun* era, dresvn and keith hudson, undoubtably face a is a compelling, complex trip… heads down but arms flailing. face b continues the theme but takes the listener far deeper into the cavern. here the concern is more the effects of space within song, a moment where beatrice allows herself to move away from the floor to find a little more room for playful experimentation. the saxophone is further treated with a plethora of effects to compliment the array of dub signals that scatter and skip around the basin. the record closes with sonnier (walk in the light) which strangely somehow manages to feel jazzier in its components, even in comparison to a pair of tracks riffing on a manipulated free-jazz sax part. it sounds strangely unsure of its world, adding to this whole loosely slung, loping feel which somehow fits amongst the stern, brooding, and efficient synth play. beatrice masterfully manages to create a piece here that grows in intensity without ever increasing in pace or texture, every drop is intended to stir the listener a little more than the last. theres a sense throughout all the pieces of having rhythm imposed or even inflicted upon the listener but this is certainly not a conflict of ideas… there is optimism, harmony and above all - wild groove nestled within beatrices world of mutant shuffle.

boogiefuturo presents another essential edits disc, ransacking the record boxes for those trippy disco oddities, crucial boogie joints and new-wave gems, to be given the once over by a trusted master of ceremonies. justin van der volgen has always delivered the goods, be it his edit work for labels like golf channel or eric duncan’s keep it cheap label, or his truly special dj sets, and on bf005, the brooklyn based maestro gets suitably hallucinatory with his brace of edits here. two vocal cuts, steeped in that decadent 80s production flair and bombastic groove, grandiose songs for heroes, saints & sinners, edited with love by one of the scene’s most respected aficionados.

berlin atonal is proud to pick up on a tradition begun in 1984 with the publication of two volumes of live recordings from the 1983 edition of the festival. those records bore witness to the most inventive, adventurous sounds of the festival, and therefore of their time, containing live bits from psychic tv, la loora and zev. berlin atonal vol. 3 carries this custom forward three decades with selections from four of the standout performances of berlin atonal 2014. of course cabaret voltaire’s lauded and historical ?rst show in over 20 years is featured, richard h kirk’s no-nostalgia and machinery driven set ?rmly putting the cabaret voltaire project in a future-facing direction. miles whittakers surprising and muscular live performance also contributes a cut, as does festival favourite fis with his characteristically lumpy, textural soundscapes.

the second edition of the rose records limited 10- series comes courtesy of junktion, whose releases on the likes of outplay and slow town didn t only sell out at breakneck speed but also established him as one of holland s biggest talents in discerning deephouse/disco circles. junktion does what he does best on this delightful little platter. the lolloping running for whatever on the a is as infectious as they come, with loads of clever samples arranged over classy rolling drums and a deep, rubbery bassline. flip over for pale blue dot, a slightly tougher, trippier uptempo workout with spaced out pads, big drums, crisp hats and massive synth stabs that should whip up a real frenzy in a packed club. killer pair of tunes from a producer that s very much on top of his game.

a booming clavinet led banger from everyones favourite disco uncles, eric duncan and dean meredith. heavy on the lasers and scything hi hats with a bassline as deep as you would expect from these fellers. marcellus trademark sound is all over his remix - sultry rhodes and sweet, driving funk, and the central executives version strips it to the bone, revealing not a skeleton but a robot. a robot playing a fucking saxophone! rock on, dudes. golf channel every time!

finally putting to rest a one-year break, retreat is back in full swing in order to bring more heat this summer thanks to the busted moniker ep from quarion! with four tracks that showcase a jazzier, somewhat wilder side of the retreat co-founder, busted moniker has the stamp of a producer on top of his game, squeezing out all of the funk from his machines and letting loose without too much over-thinking. can you handle it?

parisian artist nautil is a music student specialising in acoustics, signal processing, and informatics. his debut single, canopée, utilises analog synths, sampling and personal recordings to emphasize the geometrics of nature and music. on the a-side the lead track, canopée, is a cavernous, pulsing, low-frequency techno colossus destined to hypnotise dark warehouse spaces. on the reverse galdae is a propulsive tecnoid tweaker while mue is designed for head rolling after hours with mesmeric synth drones suspended over a brain melting sub-bass pulse.

we find it slightly hard to believe that it s been three years since blocks and escher launched narratives music with their explorative *sagan / broken* 12-inch. unafraid to stray from its drum & bass roots, the label has since become synonymous with encapsulating, poignant, cutting-edge music. favouring quality over quantity, blocks and escher have kept the narratives release schedule sparse, only now hitting the big 1-0. along with the founders, only overlook, asc, loxy & resound and rhyming in fives have had their names tied to the label, and it s the latter who returns now for the tenth release.
first surfacing in 2013 with the hindsight ep, rhyming in fives remains enigmatic to say the least. little to nothing is known about the producer, and aside from a free download that dropped last week via mixmag, the new 4-track light leaks ep is only the second offering ever from the mysterious musician.
